Where art meets science: Two of Antwerp’s top artists have received honorary doctorates from the University of Antwerp | Antwerp

Anyway, I hope to be able to explore this tomorrow,” replies respected Van Hooydonk. “It is so wonderful to be here in Antwerp, the city that I take with me everywhere in my heart and head.” His wife, Marilyn Myers, was also honored. The writer and multimedia artist, who has just completed her exhibition at the famous Zeno X gallery in Borgerhout, speaks modestly: “After twelve years of living among academics, I feel comfortable here. In the eighties I approached the development of artificial intelligence with Luc Steels (Professor of Computer Science at the Free University of Brussels, ed.). Follow. Other prizes

Honorary doctorate ceremonies will also be held on Wednesday 30 and Thursday 31 March. Professor Dr. Dr. Helmut Richberger received an honorary doctorate from the Faculty of Applied Engineering Sciences in recognition of his expertise in integrating information theory. Professor Dr. Patricia C. Williams receives an honorary doctorate from the Law School in recognition of her expertise in the fields of race, gender, literature, and law.

Professor Dr. Dr. Ugur Şahin and Prof. Dr. Özlem Torici were awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences in recognition of their pioneering work in the development and application of mRNA technology in immunotherapy and vaccines and in the development of the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, which has protected the health and lives of millions of people.

Professor Dr. Dr. Michelle Lamont received an honorary doctorate from the Faculty of Social Sciences in recognition of her expertise in the field of sociology, more specifically social issues related to culture and social inequality. Celebrations will continue in a limited circle.
