Women’s Football | The Netherlands, Belgium and Germany want to organize the 2027 World Cup

The Dutch Football Association had already indicated in 2018 its desire to organize the 2027 World Cup. Then the field of women’s participation was expanded from 24 to 32 countries. This expansion called for help from neighboring countries Belgium and Germany.

Dutch women won the European Football Championship in the Netherlands in 2017 and in 2019 they reached the World Cup final.

Dutch Football Association General Secretary Gijs de Jong wants to capitalize on the growing interest and give women’s football new impetus. “Our ambition is to create a unique atmosphere for our Dutch fans and the best sporting conditions for our players.”

The Netherlands, Belgium and Germany quickly presented themselves as candidates to organize the FIFA Women’s World Cup. FIFA has only just opened nominations, but all three countries quickly showed keen interest. South Africa and Brazil are also said to have reported.
