Zoersel municipality draws two pedestrian circles on its territory – Antwerps Persbureau

zorcell – It is not necessary to exercise intensely to feel the positive effects of exercise. A beautiful walk is indeed a huge step in the right direction. Walking is also beneficial for the elderly or people with limited mobility. That is why the municipality and OCMW Zoersel have developed two pedestrian circuits on their territory.

This afternoon the boarding took place on wheelchair accessible roads. Immediately spring full of action. Pedestrian circles are connected routes that everyone can walk independently and at their own pace to go to the bakery, reach a certain number of steps per day, or just take a breath of fresh air.

Catherine Skrivers (CD&V), Local Councilor of Health: “The great thing about the roads is that they are wheelchair friendly. All lanes are smoothed and the edges of the pavement are leveled so that the roads can be covered with aids such as a walking stick, walker or wheelchair.

In addition, you will come across many benches along the way, where you can relax. Therefore, pedestrian circles are mainly for the elderly, people with walking difficulties, or parents outside with a stroller.

Regular exercise reduces the risk of disease and has a beneficial effect on concentration and memory. The benefits are endless in fact, because they also guarantee a healthy weight, a better night’s sleep, less chance of depression … So it’s no wonder, in the context of health, that Zürsel Municipality wants to encourage all residents of Zürsel, including those who are less able to movement, to tie the shoelaces tightly.

Route 1 departs from De Porte Residential Care Center and is 1.8 km long. This pedestrian circle has been around for quite some time and has been given a new look. The second and new pedestrian circuit starts from the residential care center in Halmolen and is 2.5 kilometers long. To follow the route, one must follow the white, round, black-arrowed signs starting from the two residential care centers. The route can also be found at www.zoersel.be/bewegen. and on the RouteYou app.

Schryvers: “Also this year, Zoersel, together with 217 Flemish cities and municipalities, is taking part in the ‘10,000 steps: every step counts’ campaign! This is the number of steps per day that ensures a healthy life. For people over 65, this is 8,000 steps. So, between Thursday, April 6, and Sunday, May 28, everyone can enjoy three new beautiful walks of 10,000 steps.

The walking paths are specially designed by the walking club De Natuurvrienden Zoersel. The starting points are in the village square of Halle, in front of the administrative center and the square next to the church in Zürsel, where Kikibo sits on the bench. Routes can be found at www.zoersel.be/bewegen and on the RouteYou app.

Mayor Liesbeth Verstreken (N-VA): “What could be nicer than putting on your walking shoes on a beautiful spring day and enjoying the beautiful places our municipality has to offer? Not only will this strengthen body and mind, but also a good opportunity to meet acquaintances along.” Road and talk. With pedestrian circles we want to make this possible for everyone. So do it.”

It does not stop at these actions: In addition, the municipality and OCMW Zoersel are also committed to announcing the new movement coach, there will be another happiness walk and more. (EM/Photo Municipality of Zoersel)
