The remains of the last person still missing have been found after the collapse of an apartment complex in American Surfside, near Miami. This brings the total number of victims to 98, said Daniela Levine Cava, Mayor of Miami-Dade County.

Levin Cava said that although the last missing person has been found, the search for the wreckage will continue to make sure all possible human remains are found. It can also help determine the cause of the breakdown. By July 8, hopes of finding people alive under the rubble had faded.

The building pretty much collapsed on the night of June 23 to 24. About five weeks after the disaster, its cause is still unclear. Three years ago, there was a warning about the condition of the forty-year-old building on the coast.

It has since been revealed that at least a dozen apartment buildings in the Miami area have worrying architectural flaws, such as crumbling concrete. Owners must take immediate action. Dilapidated buildings are now considered unsafe buildings.
