Residents talk to physiotherapists about health

With nine collaborating physiotherapy practices from Delden, Markelo, Hengelde, Diepenheim and Goor, the social welfare organization Salut achieves first through the joint venture: “Healthy hoof your way”. During the months of September and October, there is a special promotion for health-conscious residents of Hof van Twente. For you as a resident, it is an opportunity to gain insight into your own health through your own motivations and capabilities. You can then work with this in your own way. This procedure is part of the Positive Health Pilot Project.

The Positive Health Pilot Project

Preparation for this project began a year ago. Physiotherapists are committed to working closely with general practitioners, nutritionists, nurse practitioners, sports clubs and practitioners, among others. “Instead of focusing on care and disease, we want to invest more preventively in health on the front, with an emphasis on self-management. That’s why we work together on this project,” says Henk Abels, coordinator of the Prevention Convention.

By conducting extensive conversations with residents based on the Positive Health Discussion Model, we look not specifically at complaints, but at residents’ own choices. For example, you may have a complaint that comes from a different place than you initially thought. Conversation about this can lead to new insights to start your health the simple way. A walking group, membership in an association, or a weekly meeting (with a friend, for example) might be the right direction.

All participating physical therapy practices have trained staff to be able to conduct conversations based on positive health. In addition to conversations with residents and the “Hof Gezond in your way” campaign, the research for this project is being carried out by Saxion Hogeschool (Smart Health Research Group) in collaboration with Roessingh Rehabilitation Center and Twentse Koers (Cooperative Care and Prevention). It is investigated what the residents of Hof van Twente would like to change or what they would like to pay attention to in terms of their lifestyle. The relevant professionals then respond to this from the philosophy of positive health.
