Another Tour film (Druk), a Dutch co-production with Denmark and Sweden, was named Best European Film of 2020. This was announced during the 33rd European Film Awards. The award ceremony can be watched live from Berlin. Director Thomas Winterberg also won the Best European Director award.
Along with Tobias Lindholm, Vinterberg was also awarded Best European Screenplay. Madds Mikkelsen was voted Best European Actor for his role in the film. Paula Bear was chosen as Best European Actress for her performance in Undine.
Berlin Alexanderplatz, a Dutch collaboration with German producers, was also nominated for Best European Film. The production won the award for Best Musical.
In addition to the Discovery Prize, Halina Reijn received a Best European Film award for the first time. Reijn was nominated for her directorial debut Instinct. Instinct was the Dutch actress’s first full-length movie. Starring Carice van Houten, the movie revolves around a psychologist who gains feelings for one of her patients, TBS’er. The Discovery Prize ultimately went to Italian director Carlo Sironi. He made his debut with the movie Sole.
