He said so in Parliament on Wednesday after a question from Jeremy Vannickhout (Groen). Beke wants to set up a new advisory committee as quickly as possible.
“I do not support closing all borders, but I believe that additional measures are needed at the borders with the United Kingdom and Ireland,” Beck said.

“First, I think controls should be strengthened not only on airplanes, but also on trains. Second, we support those who come back for immediate testing and quarantine even after less than 48 hours. Third, we no longer want to make an exception for those going on a business trip. “.

The advisory committee should decide on these measures, which have set a date for its January 22nd meeting. Nevertheless, Beck wants this meeting to take place “as soon as possible”. And according to Vanikhot, the minister is sending a very clear signal. “When I see what France, the Netherlands and Denmark are doing, I think it would be a good thing if we were equally consistent,” he said.

Van Gucht: “Good idea”
Virologist Stephen Van Gucht actually supports that. “The suggestion therefore comes from the scholars,” he says. These are only people who have completed the Passenger Location Form and have therefore been in the country for more than 48 hours.
According to the virologist, quite a few people who have stayed in the UK for less than 48 hours are running away from attention. This is why he also invites these people to “at least test”. The communication investigation can then be initiated on the basis of a positive test. The quarantine commitment, in turn, appears to be difficult to achieve in practice, as it often concerns short-term work-related visits.
The exact details of what type of test these people will take next have yet to be determined. But Van Gucht also agrees to invite Beck to meet on this before January 22nd, when the next deliberation committee will be scheduled. “This way, we can monitor the pulse and reduce the number of injuries,” he says.
