Britain is aiming for new tariffs on American wine and chocolate

London (ANP / RTR) – The United Kingdom wants to increase tariffs on imports of wine, chocolate and lobster from the United States. In this way, the British want to protect their economy and local businesses. This is part of a larger trade dispute between the EU and the United States that has been going on for some time.

In retaliation for the steel tariffs introduced by Donald Trump in 2018, the European Union imposes an additional 25 percent tax on the selection of American products that enter the country. For example, higher import taxes apply to jeans and whiskey. Since the United Kingdom can again determine its own trade policy from Brexit, it now chooses to tax other products.

The British pointed out that they wanted to resolve the dispute with the United States. If successful, the new fees will not be implemented.

Earlier this month, the US Chamber of Commerce pointed to the negative effects of a trade dispute with Europe. This will only affect US companies and their employees. For example, exports of American spirits to the EU fell by 40 percent.
