Concern for mental health cannot wait

The National Implementation Plan indicates, as the King did in his Throne Speech, that we face a number of major social challenges in the coming period. These challenges require resolution now. Therefore, we call on the new government to include mental health promotion in the new government’s plans as a guiding principle and spearhead, and to keep mental health care widely available from young to old for those who need this care.

Director Monique Rock:’The call in the Throne Speech that workers should be able to continue to develop throughout their careers is something we strongly embrace. We therefore believe it is important that the need for permanent professional development is also (legally) guaranteed for healthcare professions for which this is not yet regulated, such as healthcare psychologists.

However, in the documents presented on Budget Day, the Million Dollar Bill and associated documents from the outgoing government, few new issues were presented for psychologists and their field. It is clear that the current caretaker situation in the government, coupled with government finances, has led to restraint and caution in submitting new proposals.
