British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Wednesday called on France to unite after the country was in all states when it became known that the United States, Australia and the United Kingdom had concluded a new strategic alliance. “Prenez un grip,” Johnson said in a mixture of English and French during a visit to Washington.

“Donnez-moi un break” Johnson continued. It is basically a huge step forward for global security. It’s about three like-minded allies creating a new technology-sharing partnership.”

The new alliance between Washington, London and Canberra resulted in the rupture of a major contract to supply submarines from France to Australia. Out of indignation, France recalled its ambassadors from the United States and Australia for consultations.

This alliance is not exclusive and does not want to exclude anyone. Nor was it set up to counterbalance China, for example,” Johnson continued. “It is intended to strengthen the bonds and friendship between the three countries in a way that I believe will be beneficial to the causes we believe in.”

French President Emmanuel Macron will meet with his US counterpart Joe Biden on Wednesday afternoon to discuss the submarine conflict.
