Dragon’s Dogma 2 is only for one player – that’s the games

With its highly anticipated announcement last year, Dragon’s Dogma 2 catapulted straight to the top of many’s most-anticipated lists, and at a recent PlayStation Showcase, Capcom gave a first look at the upcoming RPG’s gameplay. After that, new details were also made available through the game’s official website.

For starters, it has been confirmed that Dragon’s Dogma 2 is an exclusive single-player game, just like its predecessor. Capcom describes it as a “story-driven single-player game” and also confirms that, as expected, players will be able to customize their experience in a number of ways, including “Arisen’s appearance, their invitation, their party, how they handle different situations, and more.”

Despite being a single-player experience, Capcom says players will feel “like they’re in the company of other players” on their own adventure. This is, of course, due to the Pawns system, which fans of the original game will be familiar with. For those unfamiliar, Capcom describes Pawns as “mysterious, supernatural beings dedicated to serving Arisen” that are controlled by artificial intelligence, and whose personality is uniquely determined by the player.

Meanwhile, other details are also confirmed, including the introduction of the Beastren, a new monstrous race, along with new and familiar monsters and enemies. Players will also be able to use swords, bows, and magic, while different professions grant different abilities. The story begins in an underground prison and after the titular dragon takes your heart (just like in the first game), you will focus on the race to “kill the dragon and claim the throne”.

In addition, Capcom also states that the game will feature “the latest in graphics, AI, and physics technologies,” which will combine to create a “truly immersive fantasy world.” It was previously confirmed that the game will be built on the company’s in-house RE Engine.
