A team of experts began an investigation today to find out how a stuck large cargo ship closed the Suez Canal for about a week. An official Egyptian newspaper mentioned this.
Ever Given, which flies the Panama flag, was stuck in the Suez Canal during a sandstorm last Tuesday and can only be withdrawn again after six days. The canal connecting the Mediterranean with the Red Sea – one of the world’s busiest shipping routes – has been completely closed for some time.
The online version of Today’s News stated that experts have launched an official investigation into the causes of the accident. The team includes a legal expert, engineer and litigation specialist. The intent is to investigate the ship’s equipment and the ship’s captain’s reactions before and during the accident. This investigation will take three to four days.
Sayed Sheesha, the authority’s advisor, said that the Suez Canal Authority requested in an email two days ago that the Ever Geffen crew provide documents and data that could help determine the causes of the accident. However, Ever Geffen had not complied with this request. Shish told the Egyptian channel ON E: “Some ships choose not to respond or deliver anything until the investigation is attended by a team sent from abroad.” He added that if the container ship’s crew continued to refuse to cooperate, the investigation would turn into a civil suit. In this case, an order to seize the vessel and its cargo will be issued. It will take two years to resolve the dispute. ”
