French film on illegal abortion “L’événement” wins the Golden Lion at the 78th Venice Film Festival

Audrey Dewan is the sixth woman to win the Golden Lion in Venice. This year he has fallen behind Chloe Chow, who won first prize last year with ‘Nomadland’.

Many famous filmmakers participated in the 78th Venice Film Festival. Jane Campion, Pedro Almodovar, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Paolo Sorrentino, among others. Sorrentino was allowed to cheer twice during the announcement.

The Italian director won the Jury Prize for his autobiographical film “The Hand of God”. This film tells the story of the loss of his parents when he was a teenager. The film’s lead actor, Filipo Scotti, received the award for Best Young Actor.

Jane Campion won Best Director for her movie The Power of a Dog. The New Zealand director is best known for “The Piano”, which won the Palme d’Or at the 1993 Cannes Film Festival. She also directed “Portrait of a Lady” and “Holy Smoke”.

Other well-known names on the 78th Venice Film Festival are Penelope Cruz and Maggie Gyllenhaal. They won Best Actress in Parallel Mothers and Best Screenplay for The Lost Daughter, respectively.
