In Thatcher’s England, the so-called “Section 28” is in full effect. This law prohibits the “deliberate promotion of homosexuality or the publication of material with the intent to encourage homosexuality.” Gym teacher Jin has to keep her orientation a secret because of this. This works well, until she meets one of her students at a gay bar.

In 1988, the Thatcher government passed a law banning the promotion of homosexuality (section 28). At school, Jane is not open about her sexuality. It’s not quite there yet, but now this new law makes it impossible and above all punishable. The arrival of a new student eventually forces Jan to make decisions.
