GGD pulls out HIA

In 2000, GGD GHOR Nederland developed the Health Impact Examination (GES) tool on behalf of the Ministries of Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment and VWS. GES was a pioneer, contributing to an integrated view of our living environment from a health perspective. Fortunately, it is now common practice to view a healthy living environment from a broad perspective. And is there Many tools Developed to support this.

The GES instrument is no longer suitable for use in current GGD practice. So we decided to withdraw the instrument. The GES is no longer compatible with the expanded interpretation we as GGDs give of a healthy living environment. In addition, for various topics, GES content no longer corresponds to GGD Guidelines. We’ve also seen that GES is often incorrectly implemented in projects.

There are several projects underway within the Royal Institute of Animal Health (RIVM) where, in collaboration with the GGDs, appropriate tools are being examined to properly take health into account in spatial decisions. For good alternatives to GES, we refer to the tool overview on the website www.Gezondeleefmilieu.nl.

Need advice on which tools to use on a particular project? Please contact your local GGD for customized advice. During this link If you can find GGD by place name or zip code, ask a healthy living environment consultant.
