Human remains were discovered Saturday by hikers in the Southern California mountain area where actor Julian Sands disappeared five months ago. According to local authorities.

The body was found around 10 a.m. Saturday in the wilderness near Mount Baldy, the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Office said. The remains were taken to the coroner for identification. More information on the man’s identity will be released over the next week.
Sands, an avid hiker and rock climber, was reported missing on Jan. 13 while hiking Mount Baldy, east of Los Angeles. The height of the mountain is 3,068 meters. The region was ravaged by severe storms during the winter.
On Friday, his family released the first statement since his disappearance. “Julian was a wonderful father, husband, explorer, lover of nature and art and we hold him in our hearts with fond memories of him as an original and collaborative artist,” the statement said.
Sands (65) was born in England. The actor is best known for his roles in several films, including 1985’s “A Room with a View,” “Warlock” and “Leaving Las Vegas.” He is married to journalist Evgenia Sitkovits and has three-year-old children.
On June 17, authorities organized a search for him for the eighth time since his disappearance. It was not successful.
