A 54-year-old Irish man, who was sentenced to five years in prison by the Veurnse Criminal Court in January, has been arrested in the UK at the end of May. This was reported by the Prosecutor’s Office of West Flanders, County of Fjorn. The Office of the Prosecutor is demanding the indictment of Noel M. , who was implicated in a series of truck and trailer robberies.

The gang from Ireland and Great Britain can be linked to a whole series of similar robberies throughout West Flanders. They were mainly active in the region of Veurne, Nieuwpoort and De Panne, but they also left their mark in Loppem, Ruiselede, Roeselare and Wevelgem. Across the channel: Between September 30, 2016 and February 28, 2018, they committed a total of 12 offenses. Various types of cranes, excavators and trailers were stolen during the thefts. Stolen goods were sold across the canal, and investigators considered brothers Noel (54) and Damien M. (55) of the main suspects. Damien M. in particular is no stranger at all to the courts. In the UK, it had already been exposed due to similar facts, but the man was also linked to an attack by the Irish Republican Army (IRA) in the 1990s. Extradition requested the two brothers were arrested, but they successfully resisted their arrest. On January 5, 2021, they were sentenced in absentia to five years in prison by the Assize Court of Fiorney, and after this ruling, Noel M. was arrested again at the end of May. So the prosecutor in Veurnse is urging the British court to extradite him. If AD is extradited, he can still contest his conviction. In this case, he may face a new trial.
