Joe Biden in London to visit Downing Street and meet King Charles: ‘I couldn’t ask for a better friend and ally’ | outside

US President Joe Biden has arrived in London for a meeting with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and King Charles III ahead of the NATO summit that begins on Tuesday in Vilnius, Lithuania. The 80-year-old arrived in Downing Street with his caravan on Monday morning.

Biden got out of the car, walked over to Sunak, and greeted him with a warm handshake. Biden is stopping in London on his way to the Lithuanian capital, Vilnius, where the NATO summit begins tomorrow. This is the sixth meeting between the two leaders.

Joe Biden praised the “strong” relationship between the two countries. “I could not ask for a better friend and greater ally,” said the president.

The two leaders agreed on the need to strengthen NATO and continue to support Ukraine so that the country can achieve a just and lasting peace after the Russian invasion, according to the Downing Street report.

They also share the hope that Sweden can quickly and fully join NATO.

To have tea with the king

On Monday afternoon, Biden then met Britain’s King Charles III at Windsor Castle for tea and talked about climate protection, a topic close to the 74-year-old monarch’s heart. This is their first meeting since the coronation. Earlier, Joe and Jill Biden attended the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away on September 8.
