Megan Markle Ditches Social Media: ‘In order to keep myself safe’

“In order to protect myself, I haven’t used social media for a long time,” said the Duchess of Sussex from her Santa Barbara home. With accounts called Sussex Royal, which was shut down after returning to the British royal family, Megan said she had little to do. “Years ago, I had a personal account that I closed down, and then we had an account from the institute and our UK office that we weren’t left behind – that was a whole team.”

Although the Duchess can now tweet herself again and post pictures to Instagram, she doesn’t want to. “I’ve made a personal decision not to have an account, so I have no idea what’s going on and that helps me in a number of ways too.”

Megan sees many flaws in social media. “I’m so worried about people who are obsessed with it. It’s such a big part of our daily life that it feels like an addiction. There are very few other things you call the person who uses it as a user.”

Harry has also criticized social media before. For example, the prince wrote an opinion piece last summer calling on companies to take a closer look at their use. Harry writes that he saw a lot of splits on the platforms and voiced his concerns about fake news.

Harry and Meghan recently signed a million dollar deal with Netflix. You can see everything about it in the video below.
