In the early eighties, Bow Wow were a surprising but certainly controversial band from the United Kingdom.

An important factor in all the attention is singer Annabella Lwin. He was discovered by Malcolm McLaren and introduced to the band Bow Wow Wow when he was 14 years old. The emotional images of the singer, but the suggestive lyrics constantly led to heated discussions.

I Want Candy became a major US hit, peaking at number eleven on the Billboard Hot 100. It was the band’s first hit in the Netherlands, but I Want Candy did not reach number 26 here. Different from Bow Wow Wow and 1983’s Do You Wanna Hold Me? and The Main Mountain Top 3 Hits. Boy George also briefly joined the band. However, he soon resigned to start the Culture Club.

This song appeared on I Want Candy in 1965 by The Strangeloves. The group from Australia consists of brothers Giles, Miles and Niles Strange. However, it turned out to be a publicity stunt because all three were from New York and each of them already had a lot of experience in the music world and they were definitely not brothers. I Want Candy is the title track from their only album. After a few loose solos, the Strangeloves disappeared from the stage again.

I Want Candy re-entered the top 40 in 2000, now with Aaron Carter’s version. That edition ended at number 27.
