The Duke of Cambridge will long remember his meeting with American singer Taylor Swift in 2013. Because although he is used to meeting a lot of famous and talented people, that night eight years ago was very special. “She put her hand on my arm and looked me in the eye,” Prince William told Apple Fitness+’s Time To Walk podcast.

During the episode – which was filmed in the spring – 39-year-old Prince William takes listeners for a stroll through a sprawling 20,000-acre estate on the Sandringham Estate in eastern England. He takes them along sights such as the Church of St. Mary Magdalene and tells stories along the way.

Talking about strong memories with his recently deceased grandfather, and his goal to stay mentally healthy, a moment was also discussed with Taylor Swift. “I can’t believe I’m telling that story,” said the prince, telling the story of the 2013 Kensington Palace party attended by singers Jon Bon Jovi and Taylor Swift.

“Come on, William.”

William says that as usual, there was “a lot of hands-on vibration that night” and he tried to be as charming and interactive as ever. One of his main duties that evening was to go see a show. “I sat next to Taylor Swift. She sat to my left. After John sang his first song, there was a pause and she turned toward me. She put her hand on my arm, looked me in the eye and said, ‘Come on, William.'” Let’s go and sing,” recalls the prince.

“To this day I still don’t know what happened to me. Honestly, even now I’m bothered by what happened next and I don’t understand why I gave up. But when Taylor Swift looked you in the eye and touched your arm and told me come with me… I looked like a puppy and said, ‘Yes This seems like a great idea. I will follow you.” Next, William had taken to the stage in ecstasy, after which he sang a song with the singers. “I was sweating heavily under my black tie. Obviously, I’m more comfortable giving speeches than singing live.”
