RIU Hotels & Resorts has purchased a plot of land in Chicago where it will build a 28-story Riu Plaza with more than 350 rooms. Construction will begin in the spring of 2022 and is expected to take about two years.

It is a location that any investor would dream of, and it is located in the heart of the city,” said Luis Rio (CEO of RIU Hotels & Resorts) “Chicago is a great tourist destination that complements and enhances our urban hotel offerings and reinforces RIU’s commitment to the United States, Where we’re about to open our fourth hotel, Riu Plaza Manhattan Times Square.”
The futuristic Riu Plaza is located at 150 East Ontario Street in Streeterville, an area bustling with commercial and cultural life near the famous Navy Pier, with the Chicago River to the south and Lake Michigan to the east. It will fully target travelers visiting the city on business or tourism. The classic facade will complement the building’s modern and functional interior, with the Sky Bar on the 26th floor.
Chicago is the third most populous city in the United States and is a popular tourist destination. The image of the skyline on the edge of Lake Michigan is known the world over, and the Magnificent Mile shopping district, right next door to the futuristic hotel, is the equivalent of 5th Avenue in New York and Rodeo Drive in Los Angeles.
RIU is about to open the Riu Plaza Manhattan Times Square, bringing the number of Riu Plaza hotels to nine. These establishments are located in some of the most important historical cities in the world: the Riu Plaza España in Madrid; Rio Plaza Panama Hotel in Panama City; Hotel Rio Plaza Guadalajara in Mexico; Rio Plaza Hotel Berlin in the German capital; Riu Plaza The Gresham Dublin hotel in the Irish capital; Rio Plaza Miami Beach Hotel in Miami; Riu Plaza Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco; and the Rio Plaza New York Times Square Hotel and the Rio Plaza Manhattan Times Square Hotel, both in New York.
In the coming years, the Riu Plaza brand will also find its home in Canada and the United Kingdom. In London, RIU has acquired a building next to Victoria Station, where construction has already begun to convert it into a 4-star hotel with 435 rooms that will open in 2023. In Canada, RIU has chosen Toronto, the fifth largest city in North America, as the location for the Riu Plaza Toronto, which Newly built, which includes 350 rooms, meeting rooms, gym, bar and restaurant.
