The rights and security of the Armenian population must be guaranteed. I will ask my Azerbaijani colleague to act in this spirit,” the minister said. She also noted, “to respect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of all.”
A meeting was scheduled for Thursday in Baku between the politicians of the revolutionary movement and President Aliyev. According to the Trend news website, citing informed sources, this exchange was canceled due to Armenia’s “pro-Armenian stance and unfounded statements.” Talks with Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov have moved forward.
Habib’s cabinet continues to support these statements. And she said in response to a question: “From the beginning, we adhere to a balanced and clear position, and we will use the same rhetoric here as in Yerevan.”
Lahabib: “Dialogue and Settlement”
Lahabib confirmed, during a press conference after her meeting with Bayramov, her position. “The only way out of this historic conflict is dialogue and settlement,” he said. “We are very concerned about the restrictions on the Lachin Corridor. Surely you have an explanation for that, but they are taking us away from the solution and endangering the lives of women and men. There is an urgent need to ensure freedom of movement there.”
However, the position of her Azerbaijani colleague remained unchanged. He accuses Armenia of manipulation, recalling that his country offered a solution through another point, but Yerevan refused that. Bayramov also denied that there is any traffic that is not possible on the road in one direction or the other.

The deadly conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh has been going on for thirty years. Azerbaijan seized power in 2020 after a six-week battle. A local journalist accused the European Union of turning a blind eye to the situation in the enclave when it was under Armenian control.
Minister Lahbib called on everyone to look forward, though she said she understood the frustrations. Bayramov replied: “I do not completely agree, but the recommendation is correct.” He pointed out that Belgium will assume the presidency of the European Union next January. “I would like to ask, in some files related to our future, that we not show double standards against our country.”

“Complete disappointment”
Back home, the opposition parties N-VA and Vlaams Belang have little understanding of these endeavours. “As Secretary of State, and as a lady of state, you must be able to act diplomatically on international dossiers. It is clear that Lahbib is not ready for that yet,” replied N-VA MP Michael Freilich on X, the previous Twitter. He concludes that “Our country has become a bad character and is losing credibility again.” Jerolf Annemans, the MEP for Vlaams Belang, was even more blunt, speaking of “total ruin”.
