The phasing out of coal is still in the new version Final Manifesto…

A new draft text of the closing statement was published at the Glasgow Climate Summit on Saturday morning. According to British news agency PA, little has changed from an earlier draft text on Friday.

The text still contains a paragraph calling for continued phase-out of “steady coal” and “inefficient” fossil fuel subsidies.

The text also continues to state that by next year’s Egypt Climate Summit, countries must “review and enhance” all of their targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, “taking into account national conditions.” The Paris climate agreement mandated an update every five years – and now it should be faster.

Rich countries are also being called upon to double their collective climate finance committees by 2025, compared to 2019, to help poor countries adapt to climate change.

The design will now be discussed further. Normally, the climate summit was supposed to end on Friday night, but that turned out to be impossible. He told the Belgian delegation on Friday that it aims to reach a final agreement on Saturday evening.
