Is there anything more wonderful or terrifying than space? What secrets of space have we revealed in the meantime and what black holes are still? Embark on a space journey, from our galaxy to other galaxies, with these lectures from the University of Flanders.
Is there a planet B?

Who owns the space?
Americans go to the moon again and Elon Musk wants to go to Mars. It becomes very crowded in outer space. Can anyone do whatever they want in space? Buying a piece of the moon, building a base on Mars, sending some nuclear waste into space? In addition to being an expert in international law and a Star Trek enthusiast, Jan Wouter (KU Leuven) also specializes in space law. The perfect man to answer all these questions.

How do you survive on Mars?
According to NASA, the first humans will live on Mars in 2040. Elon Musk is more optimistic and wants to be there by 2024. But… How will these Martians survive? The average temperature of the Red Planet is -47 degrees, and there is no liquid water or an atmosphere. So growing food is very difficult. Fortunately, Siegfried Vlaeminck (and an entire team of bioengineers around the world) is out there to make Mars a paradise (and provide new residents with delicious microalgae).

Are there aliens?
Not every evening Professor Catherine Kollenberg sits in her garden waiting for Mars under a pyramid of silver paper. Professor Kollenberg is an astronomer who calculates and thinks rationally where aliens might exist. But be warned: after watching this lecture, you will feel very insignificant. You will realize that you are nothing more than a grain of sand…
Why can’t you buy a time machine on bol.com yet?
Time travel science fiction? No it is not. According to Einstein’s special theory of relativity, it’s theoretically possible: just crawl through a wormhole and you’ll come out with your time machine wherever and whenever you want. Unfortunately, developing such a spacecraft is not on Dr. Peter Thyssen’s task list, but thinking about the consequences of time travel is. Because, what if you crawled into bed with your mom “Back to the Future”? Are you your father then? Or what if you go back to prehistoric times with a virus that dinosaurs couldn’t resist, are you responsible for exterminating them? Can we undo the Holocaust by killing Helter? What we can actually conclude is that science fiction films are in fact the philosophical masterpieces of our time.
