‘Up to 500 deaths per week due to delays in British healthcare’

A senior UK health official has warned that 500 people could die every week because the emergency room is late.

doctor. Adrian Boyle, chair of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine, told Sky News waiting times in December may have broken records. In November, 37,837 patients waited more than 12 hours at emergency services, according to NHS England figures. This is an increase of nearly 355% from November 2021, when about 10,646 patients waited more than 12 hours.

“If you look at the charts, they’re all going in the wrong direction. A real reset is needed. We need to get into a situation where we can’t just shrug our shoulders and say, ‘This winter was awful, let’s do something until next winter,'” Boyle said. “We need to increase our capacity within our hospitals, and we need to make sure there are alternative ways for people not to just go to the ambulance service and the emergency room. We cannot go on like this; It is not safe and not worth it.

Last week, one in five ambulance patients in England waited more than an hour in front of hospital to be taken to the emergency services. Overburdening the UK’s healthcare system is also leading to an increase in accidents during surgery, according to figures from the UK’s health service analyzed by PNA.

Between April 2021 and March 2022, patients’ bodies were accidentally left 291 times. In the same period between 2001 and 2002 this happened 156 times, and two years later 138 times. “We need to increase our capacity within our hospitals, and we need to make sure there are alternative ways for people not to just go to the ambulance service and the emergency room. We can’t go on like this; it’s not safe and it’s not worth it.”
