It is alleged that Microsoft may be preparing to host an event aiming to acquire Bethesda.
The claim comes from Jeff Group, a journalist at Games Beat, who has said a lot about The Beat Games decides to broadcast Last weekend. “I don’t know if it will be a straightforward and direct event, but they will introduce it and talk about it at length, explain what that means to everyone and talk about the near future for both companies to become one,” the Group said of the unannounced event.
Group concluded by saying, “Yes, he expected this to happen sometime in the middle of March.” Elsewhere, the journalist revealed that this was one of Microsoft’s “ milestones ” to obtain new information ahead of E3 2021, which will currently be held in digital form in June 2021 (the event was canceled completely in June 2020 last year).
There’s a big reason Microsoft is putting off until next March to attend an event focused on Bethesda. Earlier this month, it was reported that Microsoft’s purchase of Bethesda will be reviewed in the European Union on March 5, allowing regulators to determine whether the deal can be executed. If the deal gets the green light, this will be the last hurdle Microsoft has to overcome before the deal is officially closed, so an event will be held without hesitation to reveal new details about the acquisition.
There are only positive reviews on the deal from both Microsoft and Bethesda so far. Since the deal sealed in September 2020, Dishonored CEO Harvey Smith has said the two companies are “absolutely identical,” while Xbox chief Phil Spencer believes the company will become an RPG powerhouse once the acquisition is complete.
