UK-based company Blaze Entertainment launched Evercade VS, An old home game console that uses special cartridges to run games instead of an SD card or online service. The new machine is a continuation of the BypassedBlaze, the original portable console, was released last year.
Blaze’s handheld device comes with an HDMI port, so you can play old titles from Atari, Namco, and other companies on a big screen. However, there’s no way to use it in multiplayer games even if the title supports the feature. The VS version solves this problem if you want to play with friends and family, allowing up to four people to play with local multiplayer using USB controllers.
If you already have the original Evercade and don’t mind dropping the main console £ 90 / $ 100 / € 100 version, don’t worry about wasting the cartridge assembly. The US will operate nearly all of the Blaze cartridges except for two Namco Museum Exclusively transferred groups and only available in Europe. You can even insert two cartridges at the same time, as the device has a dual cartridge slot and interface that can display up to 40 games at the same time. Blaze Entertainment has currently released more than 260 games with more than 20 cartridges, and there are plans to release more in the future.
Evercade VS is powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core CPU, 512MB RAM and 1080p output. It stores the hold and shipping states in the same cartridge, so you can resume your progress on the Evercade handheld device or vice versa. Unlike its mobile sibling, VS has WiFi connectivity for updates, as well as any future online feature Blaze decides to roll out. The console will be available for pre-order starting May 28 for $ 99 and will ship in early November.
