Austin Bellamy, 20, was pruning a friend’s lemon tree in Ohio on Tuesday. Once he ran into a bee’s nest. “The bees came out right away,” his grandmother, Phyllis Edwards, told Fox. She was near her grandson when this happened. He tried to protect himself, but he couldn’t. He cried: Help me help me… But we couldn’t reach him because we were also surrounded and attacked.”

The family managed to notify the emergency services. Some firefighters managed to get Bellamy off his ladder, after which the young man was airlifted to a nearby hospital. There he was put on a respirator and placed in an artificial coma.

Investigations revealed that Bellamy was stung at least 20,000 times and that he swallowed about 30 bees during the attack. It would take doctors more than a day to remove them all.

Meanwhile, the young man has recovered from a coma, although he is still on a ventilator. However, doctors expect him to make a full recovery.
