Discovery of a hidden passage in the 4,500-year-old pyramid of Khufu | outside

Egyptian Minister of Tourism Ahmed Eissa told reporters present at the historical site of Giza that a corridor with a triangular-shaped roof was discovered on the northern side of the Pyramid of Khufu, also known as the Pyramid of Khufu. The discovery was made as part of the ScanPyramids project, an international scientific mission studying the insides of the pyramids. For this project, Egyptian experts are collaborating with French, German, Canadian and Japanese universities.

Since 2015, the expedition has been scanning the belly of the pyramid using non-surgical techniques. In this way, researchers can dig through the ruins, discover any unknown cavities or structures, and learn about the mysterious building methods of the ancient Egyptians. In 2017, ScanPyramids discovered an airplane-sized cavity in the core of the Khufu pyramid.

It’s entirely possible that the passage was sheltering something, Egyptian archaeologist Zahi Hawass, who heads the scientific committee overseeing the project, said Thursday. “I think it protects the real burial chamber of King Khufu,” Hawass said.

The Pyramid of Khufu is the last of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World still standing. It is the largest of the three pyramids at Giza. The 4,500-year-old monument is 139 meters high and 230 meters wide.
