Fatalities and severe damage caused by torrential rains in Cuba | outside

One person was killed and thousands of people were forced to evacuate in Cuba due to the heavy rains that hit the center and east of the country several days ago. The authorities reported this on Saturday. Significant damage has been reported.

“The damage is severe to homes, roads and agriculture. Work to protect and evacuate families continues,” President Miguel Diaz-Canel said on Twitter.

The president called on the residents to be very careful because the rains are not over yet and there is still danger. Pictures from Cuban media show large areas of flooding. Bridges and roads were badly damaged and rail traffic between Havana and the east of the country was disrupted.

The Cuban Meteorological Institute does not expect any improvement in the next 24 hours. Rain and thunderstorms will continue in most parts of the country, especially in the center and east.
