International restaurant site Opinionated About Dining (OAD) has released a list of the top thirty newcomers in Europe. Well-known names are ranked third and nineteenth in Belgium.
If you want to find new great addresses in Europe, it is better to book to go to Madrid. After all, there are chef Diego Mursico’s Desde 1911 restaurants and chef Massimiliano Delle Vedove’s smoked room, which is the idea of star chef Danny Garcia to be ranked first and second on the list of best European newcomers, respectively, according to OAD.
Desde 1991 is the Garcia family’s new restaurant, which has been running the nearby fishmongers’ Pescaderias Coruñesas store for four generations since 1911. The family has four restaurants in Madrid. The chef combines Spanish, French, Norwegian and Japanese techniques to create an elegant culinary experience with fish and seafood. There are fourteen places in the smoking room and the chef prepares all his dishes over an open fire in the style of a real Japanese omega.
‘New’ Belgians
In third place is a small-scale restaurant, one that is well known in Belgium. Herdog John is a name that has been around for some time, but the new location of Chef Gert de Mongler and Joachim Bowdons in the Antwerp Herb Garden is considered a ‘new restaurant’. A little further down the list we find another well-known one: Neighbor Sergio Herman ranks 19th with Le Priestine, the only restaurant in our country.
Also, the critics at OAD clearly prefer Mediterranean food: half the list of newcomers is Spanish (8) and Italian (7) restaurants. Other countries on the list of these new best restaurants are the United Kingdom (4), Denmark (3), Germany (2), Sweden (2), Norway (1) and Austria (1). France and the Netherlands are missing.
