Intel adds an AI engine to its Meteor Lake processors

Intel will power all Intel Meteor Lake processors with an AI engine. The chip giant announced that this is to facilitate the processing of more and more AI workloads.

Intel Meteor Lake processors will have an integrated neural vision processing unit (VPU) based on technology from the purchased computer vision engine Movidius. this Writes the log Based on a briefing at Computex 2023. Owns Intel newly Also advertise this same job.

Movidius technology was already available in some 13th generation Intel processors.

Reducing the CPU and GPU

The announced VPU integration will run as a dedicated AI engine on the Meteor Lake SoC to run AI models more effectively. This AI engine must work in conjunction with other AI accelerators to deliver the best AI experiences to both business customers and consumers. Among other things, making AI tasks possible on PCs and laptops.

A dedicated CPU should basically relieve the CPU and GPU on the SoC for a “sustainable AI and AI dump”. The CPU is required to process simple inference tasks with low latency. Then the GPU provides parallel performance and equal productivity. The VPU handles all other tasks related to artificial intelligence.

Using artificial intelligence functions, players can, for example, but also end users take advantage of GPT models and tools. This allows processors to significantly speed up their computing power for these types of solutions.
