Les Misérables is also returning to cinemas in the Netherlands

Universal Pictures recently announced that as of February 2012, Les Misérables will be shown again in cinemas in the UK and US, in a remastered version. Based on demand, Pathé informed Musicalweb that the film will also be released in cinemas in the Netherlands this spring. In addition to the countries mentioned, Les Misérables will be released in Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Germany, Denmark and later this year in Japan.

Based on the musical of the same name, the film stars Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anna Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Aaron Tveit and Samantha Barks, and premiered on December 5, 2012 and grossed over $440 million. The film won three prestigious Academy Awards at the 85th Academy Awards in 2013. Anne Hathaway took home the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her powerful portrayal of Fantine, while the film was also honored with Academy Awards for Best Sound Mixing and Best Makeup and Hairstyling.

Meanwhile, Les Misérables is heading towards its 40th anniversary in the West End. The musical premiered here in October 1985.
