Lots of videos about the so-called “orange shower” have been popping up on TikTok. People from all over the world claim that after eating an orange in the shower, they have more energy and feel less stressed. Is this possible?

It sounds a little crazy, but in 2014 Brazilian researchers showed that citrus scents can actually give us an energy boost. This is because smells manage to trick our brains. They make our glucose levels seem higher than they really are, allowing for more energy to be released. A 2016 study of college students also showed that citrus scents can help with stress.

Should you eat oranges in the shower to experience the positive effects? Not necessarily, but the heat and humidity will help the scent spread better. Moreover, you do not suffer from sticky hands. Nice bonus, right?
