Sacha Baron Cohen puts pressure on Borat: ‘It’s too dangerous to play with him’

Sacha Baron Cohen won a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy earlier this week, noting immediately that it was the last time he played Borat. “I just got that gray Borat suit off the hook,” he said in an interview during the broadcast. “I won’t bring it up again.”

“My last movie was the most dangerous project I’ve ever worked on,” he explains. In the film, released just before the US presidential election, we see how Borat, as Borat, causes some unsuspecting Americans to vent their racial prejudice. I wanted to show Americans what would happen if we voted for Trump again. We couldn’t stand another four years with him in power. The racists unleashed their hateful ideas, and Trump gave them the idea that it’s okay to be a racist again, to hate gays and women and promote anti-Semitism…Our democracy was in danger, and that’s what I wanted the world to do on a show.”

‘very dangerous’

“Some situations were very risky,” admits Baron Cohen. “That’s why I want to thank all the staff on set, for risking their lives to make this movie. We were often shooting in flak jackets. It was worth it, but from now on Borat is really over. I don’t want to I put myself and my co-representatives in such situations anymore.”
