A 42-year-old man from England was jailed for two years after a court heard how his father robbed him of his savings in 2017. Within 14 months, the man managed to transfer more than €65,000 into his own bank account.
Daniel Cuthbert robbed his father in Northamptonshire in 2017, withdrawing large sums from his account. Cuthbert made several calls to his father’s bank for this purpose. During the phone calls, he pretended to be his father and made several requests to transfer money to his own account. In other phone calls, the son impersonated his mother, who had died a few months before the fraud began.
Northamptonshire Police have released audio of a phone conversation in which Cuthbert impersonated his late mother.

In addition, Cuthbert took out loans in the name of his father, who was again unaware. Debts run up, causing the father to lose his home.
The investigation shows that the victim first noticed the suspicious activities in mid-2017 and confronted his son about it, so the father chose to believe him because he was still grieving over the loss of his wife.
However, in early 2018, his bank visited him and told him that he was going to lose his home due to overdue debts, which he knew nothing about.
In addition to a two-year prison sentence, Cuthbert also received a five-year restraining order. The police responded with relief after the verdict was handed down: “This was a complex investigation, but thanks to the excellent work of the lead investigator, Cuthbert has ended up in prison and now has ample time to reflect on his actions.
