Woman opens fire at Texas airport: Police shoot perpetrator | Abroad

A gunman opened fire on an airport in Dallas, Texas. She just shot at the ceiling and was shot by the Dallas Police Department. No one else was injured. Police say it is now safe.

Shots were fired at Dallas Love Field Monday morning local time. This airport is located approximately 10 kilometers from downtown Dallas. Immediately, photos appeared on social media of travelers hiding behind seats at the airport. Everyone was evacuated.

Dallas Police Commissioner Eddie Garcia said the 37-year-old gunman was taken to the airport shortly before 11 a.m. She went into the toilet and changed her clothes. She came out again in a hooded jacket, pulled out a rifle and fired several shots. Police said most of them appeared to be targeting the ceiling.

Then officers in the terminal building shot the woman in the legs. She was transferred to Parkland Memorial Hospital. It is not clear how she is. Nothing has been released about her motives or the person who dropped her off at the airport.

According to the FAA, all flights to Dallas Love have been grounded at the place of departure for a while. Flights that just landed on the tarmac were kept and were not allowed to drive to the gate.

The Dallas Fire Department confirmed to NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth that someone was transported from the airport to the hospital.

The police chief of Rockwall, Texas, told NBC5 Dallas-Fort Worth that he and his family were there. Max Geron was just going through a security check when they heard gunshots coming from near the box office.

According to Jeron, TSA personnel were notified that “the shooter was disabled.”
