There is an agreement on reviving the international nuclear deal with Iran. “An agreement is being made,” said the EU ambassador, who is mediating between Iran and the five major powers trying to save the deal from being canceled by the United States.
After another round of talks between Iran and Russia, China, the United Kingdom, France and Germany, mediator Enrique Mora said, “I hope there will be a final agreement. We are on the right track and I think we will reach an agreement.” He says there is a “shared understanding of what is still needed” for the United States to return as a signatory, to lift sanctions against Iran and to reaffirm its commitments to Iran.
According to the Russian negotiator, all negotiators feel that way. Mikhail Ulyanov said they all see “good” or “significant” progress. He expressed hope that next week would be the final stage of the talks.
But the UK, Germany and France are somewhat optimistic. Success has not yet been confirmed, they believe. There are still some difficult issues to resolve, and Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have not yet arranged for future oversight of Iran’s nuclear program.
