a & o expanding in the UK

From July 1, A&O Hostels will welcome its guests to Edinburgh. The UK’s first hotel in Europe’s largest budget hotel chain offers 131 rooms and 610 beds. It is located in the old city of the Scottish capital. According to Oliver Winter, Founder and CEO, the purchase of the former SafeStay hotel represents a milestone in the company’s history in many ways: “Edinburgh is a fantastic destination. We are delighted to celebrate its UK premiere with our 40th place here! “This chain is now represented in a total of 24 cities and nine European countries.

Royal Mile

Location of the Future & Edinburgh Ideal for a city tour: With its attractive architecture and interesting location, Scotland’s second largest city with about 500,000 people is one of the best places in Europe. Whether it’s a World Heritage Site or a vibrant pub and club scene, it’s always a few minute walk to your destination. The famous Royal Mile, which connects Edinburgh Castle with Holyrood Palace, and the University, founded in 1583, are located near the hostel, making it one of the oldest and most famous in England. The popular nightlife areas of Crossmarket and Gaggate are only about a ten minute walk away.

Apart from its central location in Edinburgh’s Old Town, a & o offers every opportunity to take a decent break from the bar in the large public courtyard. During operation, the accommodation will be in line with the corporate identity of an & o. Some rooms are already reserved for long-term guests; From September 2022, students can temporarily invite the hostel to their home.

Expansion continues

The opening in Edinburgh sends an important signal, “Winter-19 slowed us down, but did not stop us – we used the time to further improve our search profile for new acquisitions.” Last year, three new locations opened: the first in Warsaw and Budapest, and the second in Copenhagen. Edinburgh will be the first new addition in 2021, and two locations have been secured with Florence and Heidelberg. Much of the focus is on acquiring existing assets, for example Glasgow, London and Dublin.
