macOS 14 Sonoma will launch on September 26 – earlier than usual

Apple will launch macOS 14 Sonoma on September 26 this year. This is the first time in five years that it has been so early.

Apple will launch on September 26 Mach 14 Sonoma. The last time such a major update happened this month was in 2018. Hence, this was earlier than expected. We already know the launch date, but what does Sonoma bring with it? We provide an overview.

Screen time

The first update happens when you’re not at your computer (or not really active), because there are new slow motion screensavers. When you log in again, this image will become your desktop wallpaper.

As for the desktop, all kinds of new tools have been provided with which you can start actions directly. You can select it from gallery and now also easily from your iPhone. Widgets also adjust when you open an app or photo or change the wallpaper.

Live on video

We’ve been in the era of video calling for a while now, so Apple has thought about that too. There are different versions of the overlay, depending on the type of call you are on (meeting, presentation).

You can also share applications directly from the corresponding window. As with iOS 17, effects are also provided to spice up the conversation, if needed. You can also easily adjust the frame during a conversation.

Browser and passwords

Safari also isn’t lagging behind, as the browser receives updates. You can create different profiles, the search function is improved and you can use websites as an app.

There’s a better private mode, and if you want, you can share passwords and passkeys with people you trust (we can’t stress the latter enough).

communication

The function of searching for your messages has also become more streamlined, thanks to multiple search filters that you can apply at the same time. It’s also easier to find where you left off in a conversation and then reply to someone with one swipe. If you want to do this with a sticker or Memoji, they will now sync across all your Apple devices.

Finding someone is now easier too, with macOS 14 Sonoma, it’s easier to share your location with someone or see someone else’s location (if they share it, just to be clear).

Take note

Now you can not only fill out PDF files more easily, but you can also browse them by note. You can now also save multiple PDF files together in one of these.

You can then link together different related notes, for example details of a business trip and the names of suitable places to have lunch and dinner. You can now put the finishing touches on a note in Pages.

For the keyboard, word and sentence autocorrection and prediction have been improved.

protection

macOS 14 Sonoma provides additional security for sensitive content. Not only in messages, but also in third-party apps and in the photo picker. You can also blur sensitive images.

The new isolation mode is supposed to better protect you from cyberattacks. This feature is available on all Apple devices.

Wait, there’s more

There are many smaller updates as well. For example, macOS 14 Sonoma provides upgrades for:

  • Accessibility
  • Screen sharing
  • memories
  • mail
  • Visual search
  • the pictures
  • Find
  • house
  • Airpods
  • music
  • dictate
  • Siri

As mentioned earlier, you can expect macOS 14 Sonoma to release on Tuesday, September 26. A few days ago, Apple rolled out an emergency update for various operating systems to fix leaks through which spyware could infiltrate Pegasus.
